RRMA Display
George Bothwell Branch
Regina Public Library
January 2023
The RRMA was invited to offer a public display at the George Bothwell Branch of the Regina Public Library system, which is located at Southland Mall in January 2023.
We were able to set up a 12-foot by 12-foot display that included our four corner sections and four 2-foot by 4-foot modules.
We had not been able to run any of our layout since 2019 with the COVID pandemic restrictions in place, so this small layout gave us a good test of what would be needed to run the full layout.
RRMA Treasurer Corie Knutt and member Bob Summers take the controls of the Library layout. We ran as many as three trains at a time and trains over 20 cars long! Not bad for a small layout.
Sandy Creek isn't running very high but the bridges are still necessary for road and rail traffic.
Visitors were encouraged to look for trains - always a big hit with the younger crowd.
Passenger service was provided on the RRMA by a lone VIA Rail RDC-1. It ran a "station-to-station" service, albeit serving the only station on the loop. Talk abour a run around! Transit service was also provided.
It's only about five feet (just under 500 HO scale feet) down the track to the flashing EOT device but it looks a lot longer than that.
The Tempo convenience store, Jimmy's Pizzeria, the Domo gas bar and the Milky Way have truned the lights on as dusk approaches at the library (thanks to dimming light controls).
It wouldn't be Saskatchewan without a grain elevator or two. A very sharp looking CP Rail SD40-2F (note the working green classification lights) passes the old Saskatchewan Pool elevator at Pinkie. The RRMA layout is based on contemporary Saskatchewan but just about anything can be found here covering the 1950's and 60's up to the present day.
A BIG thank you to the wonderful team at the Regina Public Library, George Bothwell Branch. They bent over backwards to make our display a success by going above and beyond the call.
Drop by the Library if you can and tell them that the "train guys" sent you. It's a very well-equipped branch that has lots to offer.
Who knows ... maybe we'll be back!
